You DO NOT Own Your MLM Business, Or
Do You? 
This may sound like a strange topic to blog about but actually if you think about it there are a few things that could easily be taken away from you.
Andy, I own everything. I’m a self-employed network marketer so I own my own business. I move/sell products, I build teams of people and my networking business is buzzing with enthusiasm, it’s massive… Great!!
I also have a blog hosted on wordpress that I’ve been building for a few years now and I own that and the content I created… Articles, Videos, Ads, Plus, Plus, Plus… Great!!
Let me give it to you like this. In my opinion there are only 2 things that you own in your MLM business especially if you are marketing online (which in 2012 you should be, in my opinion!)
This might hurt however you DO NOT own your own business!!
What would happen if your MLM Company went into Receivership? Filed Bankruptcy? And all that you had built were taken away from you over night?
Hopefully the MLM company your currently building is financially stable and it’s not a newbie flash in the pan company as they’re cropping up all the time and people think it’s great to start at the beginning!?
Believe me, it’s not!!
Oh, also the blog that you mentioned you owned that you’re currently hosting through wordpress!! Actually, you don’t own that too. Because if you’re letting wordpress host your blog then what would happen if wordpress pulled you’re hosting? What would happen to all that time in creating content, blog posts? It’s all gone, again overnight!!
In my opinion I believe you only own 2 things in your MLM business and those are
- You Own Your ‘Self Hosted’ Blog
- You Own Your List!
Why do I say this…? I say this because I believe this stuff is important and you need to understand it!
You own your blog because you’re hosting it on your own serves. Yes, you maybe and hopefully are using wordpress as the platform for your blog however the key is that you are self-hosting it. WordPress can never and will never take you down!! Unlike if you used hosting from wordpress, anything they thought were offensive they could easily pull the plug on you.
I’ve explained why you don’t own your own business however you do own your own list!!
You also don’t own any article you submit to any e-zines directories, YouTube videos, Hub pages, podcasts etc… etc… because the company in which you submit them to could easily pull them down if they don’t like the content… My YouTube channel once got closed down. Fortunately for me the video’s on there wasn’t branding me so that was fine. But just to make a point!
Your self-hosted blog and your list are the biggest two most valuable assets you have.
Just imagine if you have a massive list that you’ve been building for some time. Let’s say 55’000 people on this list and for a few years you’ve been branding yourself has a leader and directing people to valuable content on your blog so you’ve built up leadership, trust, self-respect and suddenly your MLM Company goes into Receivership… WTF!!! Bang!!!
Well the fact is you can start inside another MLM Company and mail out a blast e-mail to your list of followers to 55’000 network marketers and you’ll probably find quite a few will follow you and become your downline instantly.
No one can ever take your list away from you and no one can take your self-hosted blog!!
I hope this article didn’t scare you because if it did believe me it wasn’t wrote with that in mind however I did want you to think more outside of the box in the way that you’re building your business.

It all sounds sweet however, things can change and you need to understand you have to build for the unexpected. Did you ever expect terrorists to take down the twin towers? No!!! So, build for the future but cover your backs!!
